Dog Crates, Wire Dog Cages
& Wooden Dog Kennels
Dogs and Puppies, like people, enjoy having a space they can call their own. This is possible
for them with dog crates, wire dog cages and wooden dog kennels.
It is more common to use dog crates, wire dog cages when your dog is inside the house and
to use wooden dog kennels when your dog is outdoors. If your dog is going to stay outside for long periods of time,
and especially if you do not have a fenced in yard, you will need a dog kennel to keep your dog safe and
comfortable.

The size of the dog kennel will depend on how big your dog is, and do not forget to take into
consideration (if your dog is not already full grown) how big your dog will eventually get. Most people choose
either a wire mesh kennel or a galvanized steel kennel for outdoor use. You have choices for the ground covering
ranging from the original dirt in your yard to gravel to a concrete slab. Bear in mind that if your dog likes to
dig, they may be able to dig underneath the kennel and escape if you go with dirt or sand. It is also nice to put
some kind of a roof over the kennel. A replaceable tarp that you can fasten down is a good choice or you may decide
to go with a shingle roof. It will depend on how much money you are willing to spend.
Dog crates and kennels come in various shapes and sizes but a good example of a kennel is the
Jewett-Cameron Champion dog kennel for approximately two hundred dollars. It is easy to assemble and it is designed
for safety, convenience and long life. It is made of galvanized steel that offers rust protection and it will also
protect your dog from wild animals and stray dogs. A tarp could easily be placed over the top of the kennel. It
measures 4 feet high by 5 feet wide x 5 feet long. If you will need something large Jewett-Cameron offers a kennel
that is 6 feet high by 5 feet wide x 10 feet long and it is priced at approximately four hundred dollars. It has
the same great features as the other kennel but it will give your dog more room to stretch their legs.

Dog crates also come in steel but, in addition, you will find them in wood, canvas and plastic.
These work better inside your home and will give your dog a place that they know is their own where they feel safe.
They are also good for transporting your dog to vet appointments and for other travel purposes. Many of the wood
crates are made to look like a piece of furniture and they can be manufactured to blend in with your décor and even
used as an end table. They start at approximately two hundred dollars. The wire crates start at around sixty
dollars, as do the canvas crates. Plastic ones start at around forty dollars but, of course, price will depend not
only on the size of your dog but also on the features that are important to you.
Dog crates, wire dog cages and kennels can be a real advantage to both you and your dog.
For outside, they will have an area where they are safe and you can feel confident leaving them knowing they are in
a contained area and happy. For inside the house, both you and your dog will be happy knowing they have a place to
call their own where they can go and feel warm and comfortable.
